My name is Karelle, and I’m delighted to meet you. I spent twenty-five years in fashion and luxury, between leading collections and retail. The most precious thing I learnt there: how to spot the piece that asserts a personality when everyone is carrying the same bag.
Atelier 189 was born of that eye, and above all of a longing to let my hands do the talking. I love detail, accumulation, repetition. But I am, let’s admit it, a stickler for order: everything must always be organised.
The time it takes
The base of the bag is made by a partner workshop. The crochet, however, is worked by hand in Paris, one stitch after another, then set on the bag.
Today, those hands are mine. Every piece leaves numbered.
Why 189
It’s the number of the family home. I used to embroider it on my Breton tops long before it became a name.
