The story of the piece

Tutti Frutti is a market basket that has taken summer very seriously indeed.

Across its woven straw, a cascade of fruit has made itself at home: whole lemons, yellow wedges, limes, a kiwi, strawberries and a slice of watermelon. From afar, you can almost smell the market. Up close, you find the yarn, the tight stitches, the even rows, the time spent building each shape.

Each fruit is hand-crocheted in cotton, then assembled like a little greengrocer’s display.

A bold, sun-drenched basket, made to carry a little or a lot, but above all to prompt the same question every time: Are they real?

Decoration designed, crocheted and assembled by hand in Paris.

Why we love it

Because it has all the simplicity of a market basket while being utterly extravagant.

Because it can go to the beach, to the market, into town, or simply sit in a white hallway as a decorative object.

Because it does exactly what Atelier 189 loves to do: turn an ordinary, everyday object into an extraordinary composition.

The time it takes

Each element is worked separately: the shapes are built up stitch by stitch, firmly stuffed, then assembled. Crochet takes time because it cannot go any faster than the hand. That is precisely what gives it its structure, its relief and its presence.

Care

Avoid water, excessive rubbing and long exposure to direct sunlight. Clean gently and dry, with a soft cloth. A stubborn stain? Write to us before you rub.
